Owed money? Unpaid invoice?
From letter to filing for £29.
The Claim Pack drafts the letter before claim under the right pre-action rules, works out the interest and the court fee, and fills in the particulars of claim and the N1 — for one claim. It is built for debts and unpaid invoices up to £1,500, for individuals and businesses. You sign, send and file everything yourself.
The pack is offered on your results page. No account needed for the check.
A straightforward debt, and a debtor who has gone quiet.
Individuals
A loan to a friend or relative, a deposit or overpayment not returned, money paid for work that was never done. Interest under section 69 of the County Courts Act 1984 at 8% a year.
Businesses and freelancers
An unpaid invoice. Claiming from another business, the pack uses the Late Payment Act — 8% over base plus fixed compensation. Claiming from an individual or sole trader, it follows the Pre-Action Protocol for Debt Claims.
Claims up to £1,500
The pack is the first offer on claims up to £1,500, where a £97 toolkit is out of proportion to the debt. Larger or contested claims are usually better served by the toolkit, and the free check will say so.
Four steps. You stay in charge of each one.
1 · Free case check
Answer a few questions about who owes you, how much and since when. You get a verdict, the time limit and the next step. No account, no card.
2 · Get the pack — £29
On the results page, buy the pack for that claim. It opens a case workspace built from your answers, with the documents drafted and the figures worked out.
3 · Send the letter
Check it, sign it and send it by post or email. The workspace shows the date the reply is due. Many debts are paid at this stage.
4 · File if they don’t pay
Issue the claim online or on the N1 using the particulars in the pack, and pay the court fee to HMCTS. The workspace then tracks the acknowledgment and defence deadlines.

- ✓Deadline tracker: the reply date on your letter, the limitation date, and the acknowledgment and defence dates once the claim is served

Start with the free case checkIf, within 14 days of purchase, a document we generate fails a procedural check — wrong form, a missing required element, the wrong court fee band or the wrong pre-action protocol — tell us and we’ll fix it free of charge or, if we can’t, refund you in full. Court fees paid to HMCTS are not refundable by us. Your statutory rights are not affected.
A £1,250 invoice, worked through
Illustrative, not a real case. A decorator invoices a homeowner £1,250.00, due on 2 March 2026. It is still unpaid on 1 June 2026, 91 days later. The homeowner is an individual, so the interest is under section 69 of the County Courts Act 1984.
| Amount owed | £1,250.00 |
| Interest at 8% a year for 91 days | £24.93 |
| Amount claimed on the N1 | £1,274.93 |
| Court issue fee (Claims £1,000.01 to £1,500) | £80.00 |
| Total if the claim is issued | £1,354.93 |
| Interest continues at | £0.27 a day |
The letter before claim quotes these figures and gives a date to pay. If the homeowner does not pay, the particulars and the N1 carry the same numbers, and the issue fee is added to the claim so the debtor pays it if the claim succeeds. If the claim is defended and goes to a hearing, the small claims hearing fee for this amount is £123.00.
Had the decorator invoiced another business instead, the Late Payment Act would apply: interest at 8% over the Bank of England base rate, plus fixed compensation of £70.00 for a debt of this size.
Interest and fees computed with the same code the pack uses. Court fees are the HMCTS EX50 fees for money claims; check the current fee on GOV.UK before you file.
The £29 is credited for 60 days
Upgrade to the £97 small claims toolkit within 60 days of buying the pack and the £29 comes off, so you pay £68 more. The toolkit adds evidence analysis, the witness statement, the court bundle, hearing preparation and the case assistant. Compare on the pricing page.

Questions people ask before they chase a debt
What is in the Claim Pack?
For one claim: a letter before claim under the pre-action rules that apply to you, an interest and court-fee statement, the particulars of claim (a full version and a short version for the online claim form), the N1 claim form filled in from your facts, your deadlines worked out from the dates you give, Word downloads of the documents, and a small allowance of case chat. It costs £29, one-off.
Who is it for?
People and businesses owed money in England and Wales: an unpaid invoice, a loan to a friend, a deposit or overpayment that was not returned, work paid for and not done. It is the first thing we offer on claims up to £1,500. Above that it is still available, but the free check will usually suggest the £97 toolkit, because a larger claim is more likely to be defended.
Why do I start with the free assessment?
The pack is built from your assessment answers: who owes you, how much, since when and whether you are both businesses. The assessment also tells you if the claim looks out of time or weak before you spend anything. It takes a couple of minutes and needs no account; the pack is offered on the results page.
Which pre-action rules does the letter follow?
If a business is claiming from an individual or a sole trader, the Pre-Action Protocol for Debt Claims applies: a Letter of Claim with the information sheet and reply form, and 30 days to respond. Otherwise the letter follows the Practice Direction on Pre-Action Conduct, usually with 14 days to respond. The free assessment asks the questions that decide which one applies.
How is the interest worked out?
Between individuals, simple interest under section 69 of the County Courts Act 1984 at 8% a year from the date the money was due, with a daily rate to judgment. If you and the debtor are both businesses, the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 allows 8% over the Bank of England base rate plus fixed compensation of £40, £70 or £100 depending on the size of the debt. The figures are computed, not written by an AI, so the letter, the particulars and the N1 all quote the same numbers.
Does CourtPilot send the letter or issue the claim for me?
No. CourtPilot is not a law firm and does not act for you. You check the documents, sign them in your own name, send the letter, and issue the claim yourself online or on paper. The court fee is paid to HMCTS, not to us.
What if the claim is defended?
Upgrade to the £97 small claims toolkit within 60 days of buying the pack and the £29 is credited, so you pay £68 more. The toolkit adds document upload and evidence analysis, the witness statement, the court bundle, hearing preparation and the case assistant.
What is your refund policy?
If, within 14 days of purchase, a document we generate fails a procedural check — wrong form, a missing required element, the wrong court fee band or the wrong pre-action protocol — tell us at billing@courtpilot.co.uk. We will fix it free of charge or, if we can’t, refund you in full. Court fees paid to HMCTS are not refundable by us. Your statutory rights are not affected.
Does one pack cover more than one claim?
No. One pack covers one claim against one debtor. A second claim needs a second pack.

CourtPilot is not a law firm, is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and does not act for you. The Claim Pack is an information and document-preparation service, not legal advice: you conduct your own claim, in your own name, and you are responsible for checking every date, figure and document before you send or file it.
