What the toolkit adds

Built for the claim that doesn’t settle on the letter.

The letter and the pack get you to filing. Once the other side defends, the work changes: you need your evidence in order, a statement that holds up, a bundle the judge can follow and a plan for the hearing. That is what the toolkit is for.

Evidence upload and analysis

Upload contracts, invoices, messages, photos and letters. Each document is read, summarised and tied to the point it proves, so you can see what you have and what is missing.

Comprehensive case analysis

A written analysis of your claim: the legal basis, the strengths and weaknesses, the evidence gaps and the questions a judge is likely to ask, with follow-up questions where your account is thin.

Document drafting

The letter before claim, the particulars of claim and the N1, then the witness statement in the CPR format with a statement of truth, all drafted from your facts and your evidence. Word downloads so you can edit before you sign.

Court bundle

An indexed, paginated bundle with a table of contents, built from your documents in the order the court expects, exported as a Word file for printing or filing.

Hearing preparation

A court-day checklist for your case and a practice session that puts the likely questions to you before the hearing does.

Case assistant

A chat that knows your case and your documents, for the questions that come up between steps. Legal information, not legal advice.

Want to see the output first? Read a sample case analysis and court bundle for a fictional claim before you pay.

Letter, pack or toolkit

Pay for the step you’re on.

Each is a one-off price for one claim. What you paid is credited when you move up: the £9.97 letter counts towards the pack or the toolkit, and the £29 pack counts towards the toolkit within 60 days.

How it works

Four steps. You stay in charge of each one.

1 · Pay once — £49

Checkout is hosted by Stripe. Your workspace is set up for the email you pay with; no subscription and no card kept on file.

2 · Describe the claim, upload the evidence

Answer the questions about who, what and how much, then upload what you have. The toolkit reads each document and tells you what it proves.

3 · Read the analysis, draft the documents

The case analysis shows where you stand. Draft the letter, the particulars and the N1 from it, and the witness statement when the claim is defended.

4 · Build the bundle, prepare for the day

Generate the indexed bundle, run the hearing checklist and practise the questions. If you win and they still do not pay, the enforcement forms are included.

Already paid for a step?

It’s credited.

  • ✓Bought the £9.97 letter? The letter price comes off the toolkit when you upgrade from your letter case.
  • ✓Bought the £29 Claim Pack? Upgrade within 60 days and the £29 is credited, so you pay £20 more. The upgrade link is in your case workspace.
  • ✓Won, and they still won’t pay? The enforcement forms are included with the toolkit rather than sold separately at £39.

What you still pay HMCTS

Court fees are paid to the court, not to us, and are added to your claim so the defendant pays them if you win. As an illustration, a £3,000 claim costs £115 to issue, and £181 more if it reaches a hearing. Use the free court fee calculator for your amount.

If, within 14 days of purchase, a document we generate fails a procedural check — wrong form, a missing required element, the wrong court fee band or the wrong pre-action protocol — tell us and we’ll fix it free of charge or, if we can’t, refund you in full. Court fees paid to HMCTS are not refundable by us. Your statutory rights are not affected. See section 5.3 of the terms.

FAQ

Questions people ask before a defended claim

What is the difference between the toolkit and the Claim Pack?

The £29 Claim Pack is the documents for one straightforward claim: the letter, the interest statement, the particulars and the N1. The £49 toolkit is for a claim that is, or may be, defended. It adds evidence upload and analysis, the comprehensive case analysis, the witness statement, the court bundle, hearing preparation and the case assistant, and it includes the enforcement forms if you win and are not paid.

Do I need the toolkit if they have not replied to my letter yet?

Usually not. Start with the £9.97 letter or the £29 pack. Many claims are paid at the letter stage. If the other side defends, what you paid is credited: the letter price comes off the pack or the toolkit, and the pack price comes off the toolkit within 60 days.

Is it a subscription?

No. £49 is a one-off payment for the small claims toolkit. There are no monthly fees and no card kept on file.

What does the court bundle contain?

An index, page numbers throughout, the claim documents, your witness statement and your evidence in the order the court expects, with a table of contents. It is produced as a Word file so you can print it or convert it to PDF for filing, and you can choose whether the extracted text of each document is included.

What is hearing preparation?

A checklist for the day built from your case, and a practice session in which the assistant puts the questions a judge is likely to ask and comments on your answers. It is preparation for a small claims hearing you conduct yourself; it does not represent you.

Is the case assistant unlimited?

It is included with the toolkit with a fair-use allowance that renews monthly, which is more than most cases use. It gives legal information about your case and your documents; it is not legal advice.

What do I still pay the court?

Court fees go to HMCTS, not to us. The issue fee depends on the amount claimed; for a £3,000 claim it is £115, and if the claim goes to a hearing the small claims hearing fee for that amount is £181. Both are added to the claim so the defendant pays them if you win. Check the current fee on GOV.UK before you file.

Does CourtPilot act for me?

No. CourtPilot is not a law firm and does not act for you. You check the documents, sign them in your own name, send the letter, issue the claim and attend the hearing yourself. The toolkit prepares the work; the decisions are yours.

What is your refund policy?

If, within 14 days of purchase, a document we generate fails a procedural check — wrong form, a missing required element, the wrong court fee band or the wrong pre-action protocol — tell us at billing@courtpilot.co.uk. We will fix it free of charge or, if we can’t, refund you in full. Court fees paid to HMCTS are not refundable by us. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Read the guides: writing a letter before claim, the N1 claim form and court fees. Or see the sample case for what the analysis and bundle look like.

CourtPilot is not a law firm, is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and does not act for you. The toolkit is an information and document-preparation service, not legal advice: you conduct your own claim, in your own name, and you are responsible for checking every date, figure and document before you send or file it.
